Science
Welcome to the Science Curriculum page.
At Meole Brace we aim to make the school a place where children are encouraged to respect and explore the world of science, quenching their thirst for scientific knowledge. Topics are, where possible, taught in an interactive, fun and memorable way. Children are encouraged to persevere with questions and enquiries, think and work scientifically, which is a major part of the curriculum and is at the heart of every science topic.
Whether it is sorting and comparing materials, exploring how waterproof they are in Year 1 or creating artistic patterns with skittles in Year 6 to help understand how nutrients from the food we eat finds its way into our bloodstream, we aim to make science as hands on as possible to provide the children with concrete experiences.
Science is embedded throughout the curriculum to ensure the children are taught the skills and knowledge they need for the future. For example, the water cycle is taught in "real life" when we visit Arthog for our residential in Year 6.
Weekly teaching ensures the curriculum is covered - this could be cross curricular e.g. Volcanoes and the physical reaction that occurs when you create the 'erruption' to having strong links with literacy and maths, for example report writing following the gathering of data from a recent scientific investigation.
