Physical Education

Physical Education (PE) plays an integral role within the lives of our children at Meole Brace. We provide a full curriculum that supports pupils to become physically confident, reinforce health and fitness and develop individual talent. 'Children who are physically active are happier, more resilient and trusting of their peers'.

Curriculum Coverage

Our aim at Meole Brace Primary is to give pupils experience of as many different sporting activities as possible in the hope they will find one that they really enjoy and can take up as a hobby outside of school. 'This has numerous benefits for children and young people's physical health as well as their mental wellbeing (increasing self-esteem and emotional wellbeing and lowering anxiety and depression).  All participate in a wide range of activities:

  • Fundamental skills

  • Net games (Tennis, Badminton)

  • Competitive games (Handball, Tag Rugby, Football, Hockey, Rounders, Basketball, Netball, Cricket)

  • Gymnastics (Floor work, apparatus)

  • Athletics

  • Team building games

  • Dance

  • Swimming in KS2 (see Sports Preium Report for outcomes)

  • Outdoor and adventure opportunities (Year 6 Arthog)

  • Orienteering

Pupils experience two hours of PE a week. Alongside teachers, Embrace, our specialist sports coaches, provide a high quality experience for all pupils in line with the 2014 National Curriculum for PE and work with teaching staff to develop their skills and expertise in the subject area.

To find out more about our PE curriculum, please see our vision for PE and PE progression document below and please visit the Sport Premium page to learn how funding is used to support our curriculum PE and to enhance children's sporting experiences throughout the school.

At Meole Brace we encourage healthy competition so that our children put into practice the values of good sportsmanship and teamwork. We participate in school and county events throughout the academic year which support children in building resilience, confidence and mutual respect.
