Design Technology

At Meole Brace C of E Primary School and Nursery, Design Technology is recognised as an essential part of the curriculum for all pupils. Design Technology encourages children to learn to think creatively to solve problems both as individuals and as members of a team.  They are taught to look for opportunities and to respond to them by developing a range of ideas and making a range of products.  The children are also given opportunities to reflect upon and evaluate past and present design and technology, its uses and its effectiveness, and are encouraged to become innovators.

Through their school journey, children will study five main areas of Design Technology.

These are:

  • Mechanisms
  • Textiles.
  • Food.
  • Structures.
  • Computer control.

These areas will be taught through meaningful contexts that are usually linked to other areas of study such as Science, Maths, Computing, History of Geography.

Our Design Technology curriculum helps to develop lifelong transferable skills through promoting curiosity, confidence and creativity whilst meeting challenges within meaningful contexts. To learn more, please see our school's vision for DT and progression document below.
