Year 6 - Beluga Whales 2019 - 2020

Mrs Hetherington

Welcome to the Brand New Beluga Whales' class page.

Please bring in PE kit on Mondays and take them home on a Friday. Our PE days are Wednesdays and Thursdays.

Homework generally set on Friday and given in on Wednesday.

PLEASE bring reading diary and book to school every day, and take it home every night. As well as times tables cards (if they have them). If it is possible to use numbergym at home, please encourage the children to challenge themselves and beat their times. The children have been shown it in school and we are having a big push on being quick with bonds and tables and this is a fun way to improve or stay on top of their recall facts.

HAPPY NEW YEAR and welcome to the new decade! I hope you all had a lovely Christmas.

If there is anything you need to know or are worried about, please get in touch with us. The children have settled in very well to Year 6 and with the smaller classes, we are all looking forward to a great year.

Information to be updated weekly

Week Beginning 7.1.20

Welcome to a new term, and to 2020! We hope you have had a lovely Christmas and a happy new year! This is Cian and Ebony, and we are going to explain what has happened from Tuesday to Friday this week. On Tuesday, we started learning about equivelent fractions in maths, and fables in literacy. We are studying the artist Canaletto, who paints places in Venice and London. Wednesday, we did fractions again, and we also learned more about fables. After lunch, we got changed for the half marathon, which we will be doing every week for the next 12 weeks. We do 5 laps around the playground and down to the gate by the trees, and after 5 laps we go halfway again. Thursday, we started to write fables in a plan, writing characters, beginning, events, and the moral. In maths we again did equivelent fractions until we got changed for P.E. Before PE, we did some independent reading and Science. In Science, we did A pre-unit assessment, testing our knowledge on evolution and adaption.  At P.E we practised passing and dribbling footballs. Today, (Friday), we went into the hall and a teacher from the secondary school (Mr Evans) came in and talked to us about a legends competition. After Break, Orcas came into our classroom and we talked about planning legends. After Lunch we did French. In French, we did weather. After French, we recapped on internet safety.  This is Cian's favourite subject (ICT).  Hope you all have a great weekend. This is Cian and Ebony signing off for another week in Belugas Class.smileywink

Week beginning 13.1.20

This is Cian and Ebony here for another week in Belugas Class. We hope you had a great week. Below, you can see a picture of a drawing that Ebony drew, its of a fictional character from the novel series "Warrior Cats". The character is Firestar, and it took Ebony 3 hours to finish! Each book series contains 6 books, and currently the authors are making a 7th series, so far containing 2 books. They are about feral cats who live in the forest who fight for their clan (large group of cats), and each book has its own plot, each series having it's own villain. Right now Ebony is on series 3 (Power Of Three) and reading book 2 (Dark River). Definitely recommended to readers above 9. There are a few things we need to mention:

  • Darwin Trip on Tuesday
  • Spelling Championships every Friday morning
  • Half Marathon every week so BRING PE KITS.

Anyway, this is what we've been doing this week. On Monday, we practiced for the little legends Competition. On Tuesday, we planned again, also in math we are working on percentages. And, on Tuesdays we practise cricket, this week we practised throwing and catching. And we looked at old Shrewsbury maps. Wednesday, we voted on our leavers jumpers colour, at the moment, it is a tie with sky blue and white or red and black. We haven't been told yet what the colour is, but we all hope the news breaks soon. We also did some research on the laptops on where volcanoes are located. They seem to be on the edge of their tectonic plates. Thursday, we did football in P.E, practising dribbling the ball. Friday, we got told about next week every Friday morning, we do a spelling championship. And we learned more about internet safety. This is it from Cian and Ebony. see you next week.

Monday, we we started to add fractions in math, and in literacy we continued to write up our legend entry in our books. We learned about Abraham in R.E. Wednesday, we finished our literacy in books and ready to type up on computers for Thursday. We were taking away fractions in maths. We had open the book assembly after break. After lunch we did our half marathon, and after geography, description about volacanoes. Thursday, we did timesing mixed number fractions in maths and started typing our legends up on the computers in the ICT suite. After lunch, we did PE with football. In this, Cian scored 2 goals and Ebby made a save!!!! We got told that the leavers hoodies are red and black. On Friday, our spelling competition took place: Stephen won against Sam D next door and  Elliott won against Connor. In maths we did dividing fractions. Literacy, we practised plurals. Afternoon, we finished our legends on the computer, stuck in our homework, and we marked our comprehensions.
