Year 2 - Penguins 2017 - 2018

Miss Jones

Welcome to Penguins!

In class the children have been working hard. In Literacy the children have been inspired by an explorer's rucksack and have been writing creatively about new species of animals and plants found in the explorer's sketch book. In Numeracy the children have been understanding the place value of 2 digit numbers as well as working on doubles and number bonds. We are learning about animals and their habitats in Science and understanding the theme of forgiveness in RE through the story of The Prodigal Son.

In order to support the work being completed at school, it is hugely beneficial to your child's progress if you work with them at home too. The following ways are ideal:

  • Reading daily with your child, talking about books and asking them questions about what they have read to you.
  • Practising doubles of numbers to 10.
  • Practising number bonds to 10/20.
  • Finding opportunities to write - a postcard to a friend, a shopping list, a letter to a family member...
  • Maths games - there are some great websites - Hit the button is great for maths games and fluency in maths.

We are looking forward to seeing you next week at our Parent's Evenings. You will have a chance to meet with your child's teacher as well as looking through their books.

Christian Theme of the Month

The Christian theme for this half term is 'Truthfulness'.

In school we will be:

Helping children to explore and understand the concept of truth.

Encouraging all members of the school community to be truthful in their interaction with one another.

Exploring the concept of being true to oneself.

Encouraging children to develop their understanding of the moral choices we are sometimes faced with in life.

Exploring how through Jesus's teaching we are given an insight into the nature of God and the way he means us to live.

Parents and carers, please help us at home to support your child in their understanding of the above concepts.
