Year 1 - Seals 2017 - 2018

Mrs Polisena

Welcome back!

We hope you had a good Easter break.

We are looking forward to an exciting term ahead. Please see our curriculum for details of each subject.

In Literacy this week we are learning and writing about Mary Anning and her discovery of fossils on The Jurassic coast.

In Maths we are focussing on place value and counting to and back from 100. We will be particularly focussing on ways to split up 50, and find different ways to represent two digit numbers with all sorts of equipment. Today we enjoyed making 'half a hundred' salt-dough hedgeogs to use in our counting!

Spellings for this week:

Group 1 - tricky word and ow words:

I'm, grow, slow, show, blow

Group 2 - tricky word and long 'o' words

I'm, home, stone, alone, grow, window, tomatoes

Please ensure that your child has their PE kit in school all week; as the weather improves, we take adiditional opportunities to get outside when we can.

Please continue to read with your child at home regularly and help them practise their weekly spellings. This is so important and reinforces what the children are learning during the day.

Christian Theme of the Month

The Christian theme for this half term is 'Truthfulness'.

In school we will be:

Helping children to explore and understand the concept of truth.

Encouraging all members of the school community to be truthful in their interaction with one another.

Exploring the concept of being true to oneself.

Encouraging children to develop their understanding of the moral choices we are sometimes faced with in life.

Exploring how through Jesus's teaching we are given an insight into the nature of God and the way he means us to live.

Parents and carers, please help us at home to support your child in their understanding of the above concepts.
