Year 1 - Seals 2017 - 2018

Mrs Polisena

The pupils thoroughly enjoyed the Animal Man and raising money for other less fortunate children on Children in Need day last week.

In Literacy this week,  we are continuing to read Lost and Found by Oliver Jeffers and our writing is linked to this. We will be imagining we are the penguin, listing things we could do at the South Pole and suggesting how the boy could get back to the South Pole quickly.

In Maths, we are looking at halving, doubling,  o'clock, the days of the week, taller and shorter, heavier and lighter. If you are able to use this vocabulary with your child at home, it would reinforce the teaching in school.

Spellings to be tested on 24/11/17 based on our phonemes ea, ey and tricky word one

Group 1:   one, seat, meat, read, treat

Group 2:  one, meat, treat, cheap, least, key, monkey

Please continue to read with your child at home regularly and record in their Reading Diary as they will be rewarded with housepoints!  We will mark these in their Reading Diary so you can see them.

Any outstanding red, consent forms for the pantomime trip  need to be returned as soon as possible please.

Christian Theme of the Month

The Christian theme for this half term is 'Truthfulness'.

In school we will be:

Helping children to explore and understand the concept of truth.

Encouraging all members of the school community to be truthful in their interaction with one another.

Exploring the concept of being true to oneself.

Encouraging children to develop their understanding of the moral choices we are sometimes faced with in life.

Exploring how through Jesus's teaching we are given an insight into the nature of God and the way he means us to live.

Parents and carers, please help us at home to support your child in their understanding of the above concepts.
