Nursery - Shrimps 2020 - 2021

Mrs Nolan

Welcome to our Shrimp’s Class Page!

Hello everyone,

I hope that you have all had a lovely Easter Holiday!

Welcome to the Summer Term 2021 in the Nursery!

Although we had a strange Spring Term,  it did end amazingly with us all being back together having lots of learning fun in the Nursery! We hope that you have had a super fun and safe Easter! I have had a lovely family time and the Easter Bunny came to my house and hid lots of eggs all over the garden!

We have a fun and exciting term ahead.

(See the Parent Overview for Summer 1 )

For the first half term our topic/ themes are:

What will we see – Down in the Jungle or in the zoo?

Down in the garden, minibeasts!

During this half term we will be learning lots of animal and insect based songs, we will be doing some exploring searching for minibeasts and caring for them in our outdoor area and Forest School. We will be doing some dance and movement like animals, ‘Doing the Animal Bop!’ We will be painting and creating animal pictures and collages, and creating and talking about patterns and shapes we see on animals and creatures. We will learn that there are other countries and that these countries are different to ours, such as Africa, where we find jungles and wild animals, and learn how they are different to our country, e.g. very hot.

We will also be creating our own zoos, and insect gardens and bug hotels and a wormery.

We will be reading a range of animal and insect stories including:

Walking Through The Jungle

Doing The Animal Bop!

Dear Zoo!

The Tiger Who Came To Tea.

Giraffes Can’t Dance

Tiger

Monkey

Elmer the Elephant Stories

The Very Hungry Caterpillar

Spinderella

Superworm

The Very Lazy Ladybird

The Very Busy Spider

We will be practising writing our name on elephants, butterflies, and other animals and flowers.

We will plant some sunflowers and care for them. We will learn about the lifecycle of a caterpillar.

We will make some animal shelters to shade them from the sun!

We will be counting spots onto cheetahs and giraffes, we will be making fruit salad, counting sets of fruit for the hungry caterpillar and will see how many animals we can fit into different boxes for delivery to the zoo!

During the Second half term our topic/ themes will be:

Under and Over the Sea – Pirates and Princesses, Commotion in the Ocean!

(Parent Overview Summer 2 will be posted at half term)

Don’t forget, during their time with us the children can choose to play inside or in the outdoor area throughout the day. Inside we have a book and talking corner, a small world and construction area, creative corner, writing and mark-making area, maths area, role play area and a large interactive white board for them to play with. In the outdoor area we have a mud kitchen, water play, sand play, role play, large and small construction, ball skills, bikes and trikes and many other areas and activities.

And we have had a good sort out in our outdoor area, we now have more space for den-building and large construction and new astro turf, which the children are enjoying playing on and more musical instruments, so might even make a stage and create some microphones to do some shows!

Please remember the children will need to bring a water bottle filled with fresh water each day and their name written clearly on it. The children do have a mid morning snack of a piece of fruit and will be offered a drink of milk or their water bottle as their drink. We do refill the bottles once they have drank all their water as the day goes on. If your child stays for lunch they have the option to bring a packed lunch from home or buy a school dinner, which they can order with us each morning.

Also, as the weather is turning warmer and sunnier we ask that you apply sun cream each morning before they come to nursery and send them with a sun hat with their name written on. If your child attends on Forest School 'Tuesdays in the Trees' day and it is hot, then please send them with long sleeve top and trousers for going down there and their wellies and sun hat.

We are looking forward to all our fun learning with your lovely children this Summer Term in the Nursery.

Thank you for your kind and continued support,

Mrs Nolan,

Mrs Bridgwater and Mrs Parker.

Christian Theme of the Month

The Christian theme for this half term is 'Service'.

"Serve one another in love." Galatians 5.13

In school and at home we will be:

Exploring the value of service.

Encouraging pupils to be helpful to others.

Exploring ways in which different people can 'serve'.

Parents and carers, please help us at home to support your child in their understanding of the above concepts.
